Getting through the UF Health Volunteer Services application and orientation process will take careful attention and a few separate trips to the hospital. It is vital to have all UF Health staff and volunteers go through the process annually for their own safety, and for the well being of our patients. A) Explore this semester’s opportunities and submit AIM Forms
Please be aware that some of the listed volunteer placements will continue in the virtual/hybrid format this Summer. We can discuss this during your interview

B) Apply through AIM & UF Health Volunteer Services
AIM works with UF Health Volunteer Services in on-boarding our volunteers so be prepared for communications and documentation submission through both entities.
- Submit your AIM Application through the Volunteer Information Center (VIC): Arts in Medicine Volunteer Application
- July 15th 9am– Register HERE for the mandatory August 13th or 15th Zoom Information Session with Volunteer Services. Registration is first come, first served and will close August 9th or when all 800 spots are filled
C) Interview with Arts in Medicine – July 22-31
AFTER you have completed the all of the above steps in sections A and B, email AIM Service Learning Manager, Sam Moss at MOSSSA@shands.ufl.edu to set up an interview (musicians must audition, followed by a brief interview and details will be provided when you reach out to schedule your audition). Your application will not move forward unless you complete all steps in sections A and B and you email AIM’s Service Learning Manager.
During your interview, we will discuss your goals and interests with regard to volunteering with AIM. If they match with that of our program, we will try to schedule you based on your preferences and availability. You must be able to commit to one weekly activity/workshop for the entire duration of the semester. Please note that we have a very limited number of spots available. For your AIM interview please prepare:
- your semester’s schedule
- any questions about the program you might have
- any portfolio images you would like to share
New volunteer selections will be made by end of day on August 2nd. All applicants who interviewed/auditioned will be notified of acceptance status via email.
D) Attend Volunteer Services Information Session – August 13th or 15th (ZOOM)
- If you are selected as an AIM volunteer, you will be required to attend mandatory Zoom Information Session with Volunteer Services. Links can be found HERE
E) Attend Volunteer Services Onboarding Session between – August 20th-22nd (IN-PERSON)
- If you are selected as an AIM volunteer, you will be required to attend an in-person Onboarding Session with Volunteer Services. Do not worry if Onboarding Session spots are full. Volunteer Services holds a few spots for accepted AIM volunteers. Volunteer Services will provide emailed instructions on how to sign up for your session.
F) Obtain Occupational Health Clearance- September 2nd-6th
- Visit UF Health Volunteer Services’ website to see all health document requirements.
- You will pick up your Occupational Clearance packet during your Onboarding Session.
- Bring the Occupational Health Clearance Packet and a copy of your immunization records to Volunteer Services (Room G153) during the clearance period to obtain your clearance. Occupational Health will keep the copy of your immunization records. You will need to bring another copy to your placement appointment.
G) Attend Volunteer Services Placement Appointment – September 9th-13th
If you’ve been accepted, Volunteer Services will reach out to you to schedule a Placement Appointment with them. This is merely the scheduled time during which you turn in all of your paperwork including your training diplomas, Occupational Health Clearance Packet, etc. Again, refer here (Volunteer Services Requirements) for what you will need to bring.
H) Schedule to begin and purchase your AIM T-shirt or apron
- Once Volunteer Services has cleared you to start, you must contact AIM’s Service Learning Manager (Sam Moss) and your artist to let them know what your start date is and to decide where to meet for your first shift. Prior to or the day of your first shift, you will be required to stop by the AIM offices to purchase either an AIM T-shirt ($10.00 CASH ONLY) or AIM apron ($10.00 CASH ONLY).
